DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE

A friend recently sent me a heads-up link to DHMO.org, whose research division is purportedly looking into dihydrogen monoxide (see molecular structure above, and actual photo images below -- click on images to enlarge), a pernicious and ubiquitous material capable of assuming solid, liquid or gaseous states. It has apparently been in human use for quite some time, for both innocent and nefarious purposes. Recent controversy, according to the DHMO website, has involved statements from groups including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control, Sandia Laboratories, the National Cancer Institute, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, and something called the National Consumer Coalition Against DHMO. Conspiracy theories abound, on topics ranging from cancer to the government's failure to examine possible links to terrorism.

In the interests of public education, I urge all readers to familiarize yourselves with the presence and behavior of DHMO in your immediate vicinity, as well as regionally and worldwide. Requiescat in pacem.

Spoiler: I hope it's clear to everyone that DHMO = H20 = water. If you followed the links, you figured it out, no? NO?
